Biotech versus OrganicWhen most people hear about Science good things come to mind.

When most people hear about “Organic” food good things come to mind.

If you say the phrase, “producing more food per acre”; again, good things come to mind.

Or how about, “less expensive vegetables that are more affordable for poor people”.

That’s good, right?

If you say BioTech; now some people think bad things. And if you talk about Genetically Modified Organisms - well, now we’re into a theological debate.

Unfortunately most people don’t really know the facts about food production, and that makes them easy targets for the marketing slogans of the Organic bandwagon.

There’s an interesting video that might test some of your assumptions about food safety, nutrition, biotech and organic foods called “What’s For Lunch?“. Really this is an entertaining and fun video that I highly recommend.

Increased Competition is the Key to Lowering Gas Prices

July 21st, 2008

Big Oil, OPEC, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, these guys are raking in over ONE TRILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR from oil.

On the other side are guys like Andrew – a farmer I know in Indiana who grows corn, and wants to be part of the solution. He knows, as most of us do, that the world would be a far safer place if we didn’t need to buy oil from those guys over there.

In 2007, for the first time, the United States became the world’s largest producer of Ethanol. OPEC doesn’t like that.

So, here’s the world’s smallest violin playing just for OPEC <rubbing fingers together>.

The good guys (and I’m talking about the World BioFuels Industry here) published an open letter to OPEC last week condemning the Cartel’s ridiculous assertions that BioFuels are the cause of the rise in fuel prices.

Here’s a link to their article: www.goodfuels.org/opec.

There’s also a place on that article where you can comment if you like. I would encourage you to do so.

Ethanol is Good?!

July 4th, 2008

Oh bother! Just when it seems that all the journalists are in violent agreement that Ethanol is the cause of all our problems, someone comes along and stirs the puddin’.

Dark Palmer wrote a pretty convincing argument for the use of ethanol.

If you have about 10 minutes, then you should read it. It’s long, but worth it.

After you do, you should also sign the petition to promote ethanol here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/declare-july-4th-energy-independence-day

It is being organized by www.drivingethanol.org, and it appears to be worth throwing your support behind – assuming you don’t like paying 4 bucks for a gallon of Texas Gold.

Israel Attacking Iran This Year?

July 1st, 2008

Pop the popcorn, this should be fun. Even ABC news is getting in on the story of the possibility of Israel attacking Iran before the end of the year.

Here’s the story: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/US/story?id=5281043&page=1

Now, no one wants to see war happening, but let’s face facts here. If any country on the face of this Earth is begging for a war, it’s Iran.

Since 1979, this country has deliberately installed itself as the center for anti-western and anti-American war mongering in the Middle East.

So, now we hear about Israel hitting Iran. There’s more to the story.

Now, I’m not privy to anything you don’t know, but as Glenn Beck says, I am a thinker. And I can see how the propaganda dance is playing out.

You have to figure that the Bush administration doesn’t have the political capital to launch a preemptive attack against Iran. But man, they want to.

Even so, if Israel were attacked by Iran, then wouldn’t our government be obligated to help? I mean Bush couldn’t sit by and allow Iran to run over Israel, not even the Democrats would be in favor of that.

So, here’s how this will play out. Israel will launch air strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran will reciprocate with missile launches against Israel. If Iran does anything more than cause a bruise, the U.S. will be in a position to launch a limited invasion from Iraq. You know, to protect Israel from invasion.

This is how it will play out. Those are my words; mark them.

Social Networking Made Easy

June 19th, 2008

Social Networking Sites from NingNo, I’m not talking about creating a Facebook account. I’m talking about having your own social networking site.

There is this little company that has quietly cornered the market on Social Network Systems, and they do it the right way. By making it FREE!

Yeah, yeah, you have to pay extra to get rid of the ads – but hey, this is the World Wide Interweb; this is capitalism. They gotta make money somehow, right?

Actually the system is pretty cool. They give you access to free widgets, support for video, plugs in to Facebook, etc. Check it out at www.ning.com.
